Sketchonary

A toolkit to sketch interactions. Studio Lab, TUDelft//Interactive Technology Design Course; TET paper 2011

Designers: Enrica Masi, Sohyun Kim, Karla Rosales, Simone Rebaudengo, Myengsoo Shin

Role in the project: Graphic User Interface Design and Visual image of the product.

Have you ever learned to speak a language without a dictionary? It’s hard to get what you want when you don’t know the right words.Industrial design shapes materials but interaction shapes experience and information.

Tools and languages that we have to use to design interactive objects are different and may be a hard nut to crack.

Sketchonary is a way to bridge this gap and enable people with no experience to discover the world of physical computing by visually adding information and by discovering interactivity through sketching.Sketchonary is platform that enable visual translation of designer’s mental models into programming logic. With sketchonary you can translate unknown components into knowledge and create a collaborative environment to develop your ideas.

By sketching on the table you can explain your idea and by placing the cards on it you can add logic and interactive behaviours.

Then you can physically mimick the interaction you have in mind and  translate it into programming language that can be used in Arduino.Sketchonary is a tool for designer and non to dive into the world of interaction with a tool to start from your ideas rather than from knowledge constraints.
